positivespace!

adam's project in fishtown thoroughly inspired me, which was a great surprise. so i kind of wrote a little story in my head, and now here it is in writing...

Jill was a girl who loved to look for beautiful things in all the facets of her life. But Jill found beauty in places and ways where other people could not see it. Many criticized her for this because they did not understand. "That's not beautiful," they would say, "it's trash, it's ugly." So one day, Jill decided to set out on a journey to find and collect all the beautiful-ugly things she could, and fill her world up so high with these things that those people would look at her and be forced to see the beauty.

She has traveled for many months and today, she finds herself in an area called Fishtown in a city in Pennsylvania. She walks around the block and is amazed at the treasures she finds in this place. A plastic fork, a soda can, an eight of hearts from a deck of cards, an empty cigarette box, a shard of glass, a push cart to carry more of her findings, a bottle cap, multi-colored leaves that have fallen from a tree in preparation of winter, a patch of green fabric, an old bundle of newspaper, a toothbrush, a rock. So many things, beautiful things. Ugly, discarded, unwanted, and somehow, perhaps for all those reasons, beautiful. In the strangest and most random of places. Beauty is always present... if you choose to look for it. Jill chooses to look and so she finds. For the rest of her life.
