so, basically this paper spilled out from the overload of media and ideas that i consumed this semester. i started going back through my readings and the amount of underlining and highlighting was out of control! so i started taking key words from these papers, anything that struck me, and i wrote them randomly on a piece of paper, creating this mesh of lyrical existence. and it got me thinking about what media has become to me, the more i learn about it, the more it envelopes every facet of my life. it's everywhere. i see it, hear it, taste it, breathe it. every single day. and for some odd reason, i started connecting it to systems of religion. the way we have been dissecting and delving into this thing called media, it's like we've been developing a faith in it, and now it's become this living, breathing, existing entity. and when i tried to compare that kind of scale and sweeping, overwhelming grandness to something else, all i could come up with was god. and that's where i got the idea of media vs. god. so i collaged those terms with pictures and icons of media, but it didn't feel overwhelming enough, so i added this sea of words or sky of words, however you choose to see vast spaces; some see water, some see air; the point was to drown in what you're reading, so you almost can't read it. and it was really important to me to use common media tools to tell this story, google image search, dictionary.com, wikipedia, etc. because it kept the idea rooted in world of randomness, but still retaining this overall pattern and structure and power in it's message.
